A 16-year-old girl has died after being struck by a car on North Road near Highgate School in north London.
The fatal collision happened on the morning of Thursday, September 24, 2026, with emergency services called to North Road, Highgate, shortly after 8 a.m.
Despite efforts by paramedics and other emergency responders, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fatal Crash Near Highgate School
The collision happened on North Road in the Highgate and Hornsey area, close to Highgate School.
The London Ambulance Service said it was called at around 8:11 a.m. following reports of a serious road traffic collision.
Several emergency teams responded, including ambulance crews, fast-response paramedics, an incident response officer, a motorcycle responder and an advanced paramedic. London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.
The teenager received emergency medical treatment, but sadly died at the scene.
Police established a cordon around the area while officers began investigating the circumstances of the crash.
68-Year-Old Driver Arrested
The driver involved in the collision was identified as a 68-year-old man.
He was not reported to have suffered injuries and remained at the scene before being arrested by police.
The man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and taken into custody.
The arrest is an allegation, and no finding of guilt has been made.
Family Informed of Teenager’s Death
Police confirmed that the teenager’s family has been informed of her death.
Specially trained officers are supporting the family as they deal with the loss.
The victim’s name has not been publicly released.
